A philanthropist, Mr Success Ogunkolade, has given lifeline to a total of 100 widows in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun state by distributing food items as well as hand sanitizers amongst them.
Ogunkolade made the donation against the background of the lockdown, imposed by Osun state government to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease in the state.
The relief materials distributed included rice, spaghetti, noodles, milk as well as hand washing soaps and hand sanitizers.
The philanthropist, while distributing the items, said the gesture was his little way of supporting the widows during the period of lock-down.
“I am distributing these food items to widows from house to house as part of my widow’s mite at this period of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“There is no doubt that there will be anxiety among these women during this period of lock-down in the state and that is why I am supporting them with their immediate needs”, he said.
The state Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola had, in a statewide broadcast on March 29, announced a total lock-down of the state for two weeks to combat the spread of the deadly virus.
According to Ogunkolade, the items were distributed to provide succor to indigent women, especially widows to reduce their anxiety about how to survive during the lock-down.
Ogunkolade, who sensitized the women about the danger posed by the virus, urged them to always wash their hands, maintain good hygiene and practice social distancing.
The virus, which he described as a challenge to humanity, ravages whole communities with reckless abandon, respecting no status, religion, tribe or political affiliation.
He, however, averred that with concerted efforts from governments, individuals and non-governmental organizations, the human race would emerge victorious.
Ogunkolade urged the widows to stay safe by following health precautions as given by government and other health professionals to stop the spread of the virus.
Responding, the widows commended the philanthropist for his kind gesture, describing it as a lifesaving step.
